EUREF Campus Berlin: Integrated Energy Infrastructure

At the EUREF Campus Berlin, an integrated energy infrastructure connects the generation, storage and distribution of electricity, heating and cooling. The energy concept is designed to provide carbon-neutral heating and cooling. In the central energy facility, conceived as an “Energy Workshop”, guided tours demonstrate how the systems work together.

On the site of the former gasworks, heritage buildings and newly constructed buildings had to be integrated into a shared supply network. Development during ongoing campus operations required phased implementation with interim solutions.

BLS Energieplan has been responsible for the concept and design of the campus’s technical infrastructure since the start of the project. Based on this planning, the Energy Workshop and a shared heating and cooling network supplying around 175,000 m² of existing and new buildings were created. Combined heat and power units, cooling systems, storage, power-to-heat and power-to-cold form an integrated energy system.
